FVU Danish

Who can apply for FVU Danish?

FVU stands for Forberedende Voksenundervisning (Preparatory Adult Education). FVU Danish is a free Danish course to you who would like to become better at reading, writing and spelling. Our FVU-courses are developed to help you do better at work, in your studies and in your day-to-day life.

We offer FVU Danish classes either in-person or online.

What is FVU Danish?

FVU Danish consists of 4 levels. In addition we also offer an initial level, FVU Start. You will start at the level that matches your skills.

Level 1: We will practice grammar and spelling rules.

We will teach you the relationship between sounds and writing, so it will be easier for you to hear how words are spelt. We will be working with reading techniques, so you will become better at understanding what you are reading. In writing, we will teach you to write texts that you will need in your everyday life, such as e-mails.

Level 2: You will learn to read faster and more correctly.

You will be learning Danish grammar and we will be working with, for example, different parts of speech, such as nouns, verbs and adjectives. We will also teach you how words are inflected in Danish. In writing, we will teach you to write texts that you will need in your everyday life. You will learn to write instructions and short continuous texts.

Level 3: We will be working with grammar and various types of texts.

You will learn to spell difficult words and recognise different types of texts. You will also get more reading strategies, enabling you to read faster. We will be working on writing texts in different genres and on constructing sentences. We will do exercises that will teach you to write about the same topic in different ways.

Level 4: We will be reading academic texts and specialist literature that will prepare you for a job or an education programme.

We will teach you to read specialist literature, and you will be required, among other things, to write a long essay. You will expand your vocabulary by working with the specialist terms that characterise your field of expertise, and we focus on teaching you to spell correctly, including unusual or specialist terms. You will be asked to read specialist literature that is relevant to your education programme, and you will learn to write texts with specialist contents and to use diagrams and tables in your work. In addition, we will help you to achieve cohesion in the texts that you write.
