What is the Active Citizen Exam?

The Active Citizen Exam is a written multiple choice test on Danish democracy, everyday life, culture and history. There are 25 questions in total. You can use the Active Citizen Exam if you want to apply for permanent residence in Denmark. The Ministry of Immigration and Integration is in charge of the Active Citizen Exam.

Where is the test held?

You can choose to sign up for the Active Citizen Exam in;

  • Frederiksberg
  • Helsingør

We will inform you about the exact location no later than 2 weeks before the examination.

ID requirements

You are required to show a valid photo ID to be admitted to sit the Active Citizen Exam.

How do I get my certificate?

If you pass the test, we will send your certificate to your e-Boks no later than 2 weeks after the exam.

You can also pick up your original certificate at Speak Hellerup up to 1 year after completion of the exam.

Preparing for the Active Citizen Exam

The Active Citizen Exam consists of 25 questions. You must get at least 20 correct answers to pass. The questions are based on the self-learning material which you can download for free by using the link at the bottom of the page.
