Cultural Courses

Being a supervisor or colleague to a new healthcare professional with Danish as a second language can present different challenges than you are used to. That’s why Speak has developed a course in language development and intercultural competences for employees who have a supervisory role for foreign nurses in evaluation employment. This could be managers, clinical supervisors, mentors or just colleagues.

The courses are flexible and can be run over a half or full day or as a two-day course. We come to your workplace and deliver the course there. During the course, you’ll gain insight into what’s difficult when a foreigner is learning Danish and get tools to support your foreign colleagues’ language development. We’ll also take a look at our own workplace culture and talk about successful cultural encounters.

The course provides participants with:

• insight into what it means to learn a second language as an adult
• Knowledge of language development methods to support communicative interaction with colleagues, citizens/patients and relatives
• Tools to make decisions visible to a colleague with a different cultural background
• Inspiration for working with competence cards to assess professional and linguistic level for approval of Danish authorisation
• Knowledge about the level of Danish after completing Danish language programmes for adults
