Frequently asked questions

How long do I have to wait for a class?

  • We plan to offer you a class within a month of your initial interview. If you are open to multiple class options and have no special requests or requirements, it may be faster. If you have special requirements or requests for schedule, location, etc. the process may take longer.

How do I book or cancel an interview?

  • You can both book and cancel an interview for Danish language training via our booking system Geckobooking. You will be asked to create a profile in the booking system. If you already have an account, use your username and password to log in.

What happens when I pass or fail my module test?

  • If you pass your module test and you wish to continue, your class will usually continue with the same schedule on the next module. If you don’t want to continue, you must tell your teacher during the test.
If you fail the module test, we will move you to another class where you will have the opportunity to repeat some of the lessons before taking the test again.
We usually offer you to take the same test 3 times. If you don’t pass the third time, we will move you to an easier Danish Education.

How long does a module last?

  • The modules of the different Danish educations vary in length depending on how much you need to learn. As you progress in level, the modules get longer. Unfortunately, we can’t give you a general answer to how long a module lasts, but you can always ask your teacher when your next test is due, or you can find the information at mit.speakspeak.dk.

How do I inform my teacher that I can’t come to class?

  • If you are prevented from coming to your class, you need to write it in our administrative system ludusweb.
If you don’t know how to do this, you can find a guide in mit.speakspeak.dk – direct link here.

Is it possible to change class/time/department?

  • If you want to change class, schedule or department, please contact us by phone or email.
We will try to find a class according to your wishes as soon as possible. However, sometimes there may be a waiting period. You can choose to stay in your current class or you can take a break while you wait for a new class.
If you are an S-student, please note that your deposit does not pause while you wait for a class.

Can I get SU when taking Danish at Speak?

  • No, Danish Education does not entitle you to SU.

How much absence am I allowed to have?

  • We expect you to come to class every time and to be on time. If you have online assignments, this also counts as classes. If you are absent twice in a row, you will normally be contacted by our administration. If we assess that you have too many absences to keep up with your class, you will be cancelled. It will then be possible to continue in another class.
If you are prevented from attending classes, please remember to register your absence in our administrative system ludusweb.
See here how to do this.

What is the difference between Danish Education and FVU?

  • Danish Education is a programme aimed at foreigners with a residence permit in Denmark (except diplomats).
Danish Education is a free programme that must be used within the first 5 years of your stay in Denmark. In some cases, you will have to pay a deposit before you can start a Danish language programme.
There are 3 different Danish educations; DU1, DU2 and DU3. You will be referred to a Danish education based on your linguistic and educational qualifications. Once you have completed a Danish education, you are done, regardless of whether you have completed DU1, 2 or 3. You do not move on to the “next” Danish education.
Before you can start a Danish education, you must book an interview with one of our language consultants.
You can read more about Danish Education hereFVU is an abbreviation for preparatory adult education and is a free programme for all citizens over the age of 25 in Denmark. To start FVU, you must be able to speak reasonable Danish. We offer FVU Danish and FVU Maths.
FVU Danish: In FVU Danish you will improve your reading and writing skills in Danish. We offer levels 1 – 4. We also offer FVU Start if you do not have the level to start at level 1.
In FVU Maths you will become better at handling numbers in your everyday life. We offer levels 1 and 2.
Before you can start FVU, you need to book a screening with one of our FVU teachers.
You can read more about FVU here

Why am I being charged the deposit again?

  • If you are an S-course student and have paid the deposit, you have limited time to complete the module to get your deposit back or be carried over to the next module. Therefore, if you do not pass your module test within the time limit, you will be charged a new deposit when you register for the next module.
You can see the deadlines here.

I booked an online interview, but I haven’t received a link?

  • We will send you a link to Microsoft Teams before your interview. Exactly when we send you the link can vary. If you have not received a link, we recommend that you check your spam filter as emails may end up there.

What about books?

  • You borrow the books we use in class. The books must be returned when the module is over or if you stop Speak. Therefore, you are not allowed to write in the books. If you want to buy a book, you can order it through a bookseller, we do not sell books on Speak. We have several different books, so it may vary which book your teacher uses.
