Danish citizenship test

The Citizenship Test is a written multiple-choice test that you must pass in order to obtain Danish citizenship. The test lasts 45 minutes and consists of a total of 45 questions, primarily about Danish society, culture and history. To pass the test, you must answer at least 36 questions correctly, including at least 4 out of the 5 questions about Danish values.

The 45 questions consist of;

  • 35 questions on Danish history, society and culture.
  • 5 questions about current affairs and events in Danish society.
  • 5 questions dealing with Danish values.

You are not allowed to use aids for the test. This means that you are not allowed to use dictionaries, notes, computers, mobile phones or other tools during the test.

The Ministry of Immigration and Integration is responsible for The Citizenship Test.

Preparation for The Citizenship Test

Good preparation can make a big difference when taking The Citizenship Test and there are many things you can do to improve your chances and feel more confident on test day.

First and foremost, you should read the free study material on Danish history, democracy, economy and more. The material is also available in an audio version. Knowing the content of the study material is an important prerequisite for passing the Danish citizenship test. In addition, you should keep yourself informed about current news in Denmark.

Part of a good preparation can also be to review previous tests. This will give you an idea of what the questions look like, which topics often appear and the level of difficulty.

The Citizenship Test consists of 45 questions. 35 of the questions are based on the study material. The last 10 questions are unprepared, 5 of the questions are of a topical nature and 5 of the questions deal with Danish values.

You need at least 36 correct answers to pass the test and you must answer at least 4 of the questions about Danish values correctly.
