Exam grades overview

If you are not familiar with the Danish grading scale, you can find a brief explanation here.

Instead of using letters like in many other countries, in Denmark we use a scale from -03 to 12. You need a minimum of 02 to pass an exam, so if you get -03 or 00, you have not passed.

If you participate in Danish Exam 1, 2 or 3, the grade from your oral exam counts double when calculating your average. If your average is 02 or above, you have passed the test. If you participate in Studieprøven, you must pass all sub-tests with a minimum of 02 to pass the test.

The current grading system in Denmark has been in use since August 2007. The system was developed to make it easier to convert the Danish grading system to international grading systems. The 7-point scale includes the following grades:

• – 3, which is given for completely unacceptable performance and means that you have failed.
• 00, which is given for the inadequate performance that does not fulfil the requirements for a pass.
• 02, which is given for the just sufficient performance to pass.
• 4, which is given for the average performance with several shortcomings.
• 7, which is awarded for the good performance but still with shortcomings.
• 10, which is awarded for the very good performance with only a few shortcomings.
• 12, awarded for excellent performance with no or insignificant deficiencies.

There are many different grading systems around the world. Some countries use a system based on percentages from 0-100% while other countries, such as the UK and the US, use a system based on letters from F to A. Because most grading systems are somewhat similar, it is possible to convert grades without losing credit.
