Danish language education is a free, official programme for adult foreigners coming to Denmark

Danish language education, often abbreviated to DU, is the official Danish language programme for adults.

The official Danish Language Programme teaches you to speak, write and understand Danish so you can navigate both personally and professionally in Denmark.

Danish language education is generally free if you have a Danish CPR number and have lived in Denmark for less than 5 years (except if you are a diplomat). If you are self-supporting, you must pay a deposit of DKK 2.000,- before you can start.

Read more about the rules for the Danish Language Education here.

There are 3 Danish language education programmes; DU1, DU2 & DU3 and you are entitled to complete one of them. Which one is right for you depends on your background and prerequisites.

Each Danish Language Programme consists of 5 or 6 levels (modules). Before you can start a Danish Language Programme, you’ll have an interview with a language consultant who will assess which of the 3 Danish language programmes you should start on. This way, you are sure to be placed in a class with teaching that suits your professional level.

You complete your Danish Language Education with an officially approved Danish Language Exam.

Learn Danish quickly

At Speak, you'll learn Danish quickly so you can succeed at work, in your education and in everyday life

Danish lessons are based on the language you need in Denmark. In the first few modules, we focus on helping you quickly learn to get by in spoken Danish. Later on, we also work with the written language. In all modules, we focus on ensuring that you get a really good pronunciation in Danish.

At Speak, we have many classes at all levels – day or evening. This means you’ll always be placed in a class that suits you and your abilities. We start new classes every month for most of the year, so you can expect to be offered a class within a month of your interview, unless you have very specific requests.
