Danish courses at UCPH

Danish courses at KU Campus for employees at the University of Copenhagen

Our Danish courses at UCPH follow the Danish Language Education 3, which consists of a total of 5 + 1 modules. The teaching is structured so that you build your Danish skills step by step and become more comfortable using the language in both study and everyday life in Denmark. Each module ends with a module test so you can continuously monitor your progress and move on to the next level. The courses follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which is the international standard for language levels.

If you complete all modules, you can end the course with the Danish Language Exam 3 (PD3), which is an officially recognised Danish test and a valuable proof of your Danish skills.

We offer evening courses with classes once a week, so you can develop your Danish skills while working at the University of Copenhagen.

Learning Danish alongside a busy work life

"Being able to take classes at KU with other researchers has made it possible for me to continue my Danish training while balancing a demanding job. My instructor is very friendly and responsive, and we have been able to stay with her throughout multiple modules, which has made my experience at Speak feel very personal and supportive."

Free Danish language education

Who can participate in free Danish courses at KU Campus?

All international employees at the University of Copenhagen can receive free Danish lessons if they fulfil the following requirements:

  • Are 18 years of age or older

  • Have a Danish CPR number

  • Have lived in Denmark for less than 5 years

  • Pay a deposit of DKK 2.000,-

Classes are held in groups with other UCPH employees at the same level as you. Your teacher has solid experience in teaching Danish as a second language to highly educated people. You will be introduced to basic Danish grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary and culture.

The courses are based on your everyday life in Denmark, so you’ll quickly be equipped to use Danish – both at work and in your free time.

Course deposit

You are generally entitled to free Danish language education for the first 5 years of your stay in Denmark, provided you have/will have a Danish CPR number. However, you must pay a deposit of DKK 2.000,- before you can start. You can get your deposit refunded or transferred to the next module if you pass the module test within the set timeframe (depends on the module 6-9 months). If you do not pass within the time limit or choose to stop in the middle of the course, you will lose the deposit and will have to pay a new deposit of DKK 2.000,- if you wish to continue to the next module.
