Cultural courses for counsellors

Being a supervisor or colleague to a newly employed healthcare professional with Danish as a second language can present challenges that differ from what you may be used to. That is why Speak has developed a course in language development and intercultural competencies for employees who have a supervisory role for foreign nurses in evaluation employment. This may include managers, clinical supervisors, mentors, or simply colleagues.

The courses are flexible and can be delivered as a half-day or full-day session, or as a two-day course. We come to your workplace and conduct the training on-site. During the course, you will gain insight into the challenges faced by foreigners learning Danish, and you will receive tools to support your international colleagues’ language development. We also take a closer look at our own workplace culture and discuss what contributes to successful intercultural encounters.

The course provides participants with:

• insight into what it means to learn a second language as an adult
• knowledge of language-developing methods to support effective communicative with colleagues, citizens/patients and relatives
• tools to make decisions more transparent for colleagues with different cultural backgrounds
• inspiration for working with competence assessment tools used to evaluate professional and linguistic levels for Danish authorisation
• knowledge of the Danish proficiency level achieved after completing adult Danish language programs
